ALL CATEGORIES OF PERMITS
Here is what you can drive depending on your age and your driving license.
For mopeds less than 50 cm3 and carts. Equivalent to the current Moped Safety Certificate, 14 years for carts after a 7-hour training. Any driving license authorizes the driving of vehicles in category AM
A2 CATEGORY - ACCESSIBLE FROM 18 YEARS OF AGE.
This intermediate category allows driving of two motorized wheels with or without sidecar with a maximum power of 35 kW and whose power / weight ratio is less than 0.2 kW / kg. Two years after obtaining it and after a 7-hour training course, it gives access to the A license.
For the most widespread category, no notable change, except with regard to the possibilities of towing a trailer (or caravan). If the permissible gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of the trailer is less than 750 kg, no constraint is imposed. If the GVWR of the trailer is between 750 kg and 3.5 T, it is possible to drive a set (car and trailer) up to 4.25 T without special conditions. Beyond 3.5 T for a trailer and up to 4.25 T for the car and trailer combination, additional training of 7 hours is necessary and the mention "96" is added to the license B. If the GVWR of the trailer exceeds 3.5 T, category C1E is required.
The B1 driving license allows you to drive heavy motor quadricycles. Category B1 obtained from January 19, 2013 no longer allows driving motor tricycles with a cylinder capacity greater than 50 cm3 or a power greater than 4 kW.
This category replaces the EB license, and concerns sets with a trailer GVW of between 750 kg and 3.5 T, and for which the sum of the GVW (car and trailer) exceeds 4.25 T. If the PTAC of the trailer exceeds 3.5 T, category C1E is required.

DRIVING TWO MOTORIZED WHEELS
The driving of motorized two-wheelers is modulated from 14 to 24 years old to strengthen prevention and the fight against road insecurity. A principle of progressiveness is applied by setting stages according to the power of the two motorized wheels (14 years for a moped up to 50 cm3 to 24 years for a motorcycle of more than 35 kW).
